Koh Samui Escapade - Part 4

We were hungry after that. So we thought we will walk around and see what's there for food. After 5 mins of walking East, we decided to turn back because it was pretty desolate. We walked back to the hotel and asked the receptionists where to eat. Her English was so difficult to understand, so we made her write it down. There's a seafood restaurant within 10 minutes (which we did walked but decided it's not worth it), Maenam town (which sounded alright to us), and Fisherman's Village (reminds me of Fisherman lozenges!).
After deciding that the seafood restaurant wasn't worth it, we decided to flag down a 'tuk'. As usual, we couldn't communicate at all, I was trying to point to the word Maenam, but the driver seize upon the word Fisherman's Village and said, "ok we go Fisherman's Village". ehhh...I guess we are going to Fisherman's Village then ;-)
The psychedelically decorated 'tuk' was amazing. We could see the efforts to goes into the decor of the essentially a truck with a cover on top. It has a buzzer for ringing to stop (although it took us quite a while to discover it). A little red light came on just after we started the journey. It took us pass many shops, hawkers and restuarants, and we are thinking "oh I want to stop here, oh I want to stop here too'. But alas, it was not meant to be. We felt we pay (I think it's 300B, memory failing already after 3 weeks!) so we might as well enjoy the full distance the driver is planning to take us.
That 25 minutes ride was painful, because we had no idea where he was going! When we reached town, we were happy, but he didn't stop! Then it gets darker and darker, and we get worrier and worrier. Finally, he stopped and says 'Fisherman's Village'. It was dark!
Anyhow, once we started down the street, it was quite touristy. So the hunt for a good restaurant begins.... There were lots of massage places, souvenir sellers, and interestingly, tailors from India to make anything from suits to evening gowns...oh, they keep your measurements for 5 years...maybe a good marketing strategy, but who would maintain the same proportion for 5 years....I think mine would be 3 inches wider...hahaha...
Dinner? Hungry stomach?? oh, ok, eventually we did find an interesting looking restaurant, called Starfish and Coffee. No, we didn't have starfish for dinner!
The lighting was just nice, the atmosphere was one of the best we have experienced in restaurant eating. Very memorable...
The food was just ok only though... Well you can't have everything can you? But after the 'suffering' we had to get dinner, we couldn't complain can we?
Here you are, a little fish and a little chicken...sorrylah...can't remember what it's called!
There you have it, an eventful first night.
The adventure of Koh Samui continues...

Koh Samui Escapade - Part 3

The Beach! The Beach! The Beach!

So what do you think? I created a large image, just so that you can judge for yourself. After all, why would you go to an island for a holiday?

So here we are, our first taste of the beach (in front of our hotel). But there's no sun (so sad!). It was kinda moody, melancholic feel to it. Best of all, there's nobody! The closest I have come to experience a deserted island, what's was that movie called again, by Tom Hanks, marooned on a deserted island?

At Koh Samui, the sun set much earlier, thus it was with 'regrets' we have to leave the beach behind and go look for food...always a drag for me...if we find something good, great...if we don't, oh dear...

Oh, for those who must know these things, the sand is not fine (at least on this beach, it's coarse sand), and it's not white.

'Til next installment...

Koh Samui Escapade - Part 2

After a long 40 minutes journey in a nice Ssanyong 4WD, we arrived at our hotel. And a nice surprise awaits us... One of the most wanted feature for holiday hotels for us is a skyroof shower, and we got one, without looking for one!

Needless to say...as soon as we had settled in, we went for a shower with an open roof (there's chicken wire mesh with opaque glass on top to prevent leaves and things falling on your head).

Surprising we were tired after that and decide to take a nap.

oh...forgot to mention in Part 1. This holiday took place on September 26 to 28. Just in case we forget 10 years from now!

Stay tune for the next instalment...you can always check my other blogs if you get tired of waiting :)

Koh Samui Escapade - Part 1

Before I start on any biz travel, I want to start with a 'real' holiday. On a little plane to a tiny island of Koh Samui. This little plane is a subject for blogging all on it's own.
My introduction to Firefly service.

A very bumpy start was ended with a very smooth landing. Well Done Captain!

But this smart little bus/electric car were awesome. Operated by a little joystick and can really moved! What an introduction.

A sunny sky, bright sunshine. A perfect start to our first holiday since Jan 2007 -- an eternity wouldn't you say.

The rest of the story would have to wait! Can't wait, I'll have pictures uploaded to my photo site by tonight. http://sandmically.fotopic.net

Competition

Competition is good isn't it?

Well, I have decided to use Windows Spaces primarily from now for blogging...not that I'm a blogger professional...hah...two blogs in 2 years!

Anyway, one of the reason i don't blog is because I keep forgetting what is the password! Luckily for all of you, I can remember the blog address though...

I will find a good use for this blog...maybe musings about my many business travels... stay tune...

Resurrection

It's not often that we use this word. Now I have a chance to use it.

For all you long-suffering friends who has been waiting, wait no more.

A lot has happened since my last blog. Here's a summary:
* My house is still not done yet (another story, another day :)
* Baby is coming (October 10)
* I'm at my busiest time of the year

Lotsa good things coming, but it's a stressful journey trying to balance work & play.

I've decided to make an effort to blog again becos:
* There are people interested (believe it or not)
* Memory failing, so must record it somewhere easily accessible
* It's good for my soul

Coming up, wait for the renovation tales (in multiple parts mind you)

Owning a condo

Last night we went to celebrate my colleague's new place...ok...not new...but he just bought it ok? All the furnishing and fixtures were in place, so he literally just pack up his stuff and moved in. A neat little place.

But what struck me was the beaming smile on his face as he welcome us to his house, like a proud new father...I guess in this case it sorta the same :)

Which brings me to the status of us buying a house. I am still cheese at our lawyers who made so much money off us...in fact everybody did, the real estate agent, after taking the commission refuse to have anything to do with us! The lawyer who always pushed his assistant to meet us, explain things to us, and when we pointed this out to him, gave us a miserly RM180 discount! What lah, but then I didn't complain outloud. What is it with me? Very dissatisfied, but don't make a scene, then complain about it some more...stupid!

Yeeehaaa! Google's the best. I've just type in Miami Green on my little Google search box (Opera is still King, Merv...) and waalaah, a picture of my new condo appears. Check this out...

http://www.success88.com/apartment/miami-green/duplex/miami-green-duplex.htm

Ok.ok.ok...our unit is empty and unfurnished, but you get the idea. So all you who have met me personally, please come and visit. Anytime after August 2005. Free accomodation, get to taste Penang food, babysit my kids...a perfect holiday...what are you waiting for???!!!!

I better stop, too long a blog no good yah?

Have a good day y'all

My first blog

I can resist no more! Thanks to Merv, who I just happened to catch up yesterday, thanks to Eunice, etc, etc...u get the idea..

All u experiences bloggers reading this, probably thinking, who's this idiot. If blogging is a child, he/she will be going to school by now! And here he is acting as if he has just discovered the best thing since toothpaste in plastic tube!!

I've been inspired by all the quality blogs out there. Wonder what kind of blog you'll see from a thirtysomething who still think he can keep up (IT wise) with the young generation, stay tune...I could surprise myself :-)

Later....too much work to catch up today. Spend too much time IMing with Merv yesterday.
